Flora Amwayi’s practice focuses on patent preparation and prosecution, patent portfolio analysis and due diligence, opinion work, and client counseling. She assists clients ranging from early-stage startups to established companies in developing and commercializing patent portfolios, aligning intellectual property strategies with business objectives, and adapting to the evolving legal landscape. Flora has represented multiple clients in ex parte appeal hearings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), and has also handled post-issuance matters including reissues, reexaminations, and inter partes review proceedings.
Flora’s technical expertise spans a wide array of electrical and mechanical technical specialties, including artificial intelligence and machine learning, computer software and hardware, consumer electronics, semiconductor devices, telecommunications systems, camera imaging systems, vehicular technologies, and alternative energy technologies. Her MIT undergraduate thesis focused on the design of an inexpensive high performance ultrasound medical imaging device.
Prior to joining Artegis Law Group, Flora was a Patent Attorney at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). She began her practice as an associate at Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner, LLP, a global intellectual property law firm.
Before attending law school, Flora worked as a director in the global projects group at Morgan Stanley, where she established best practices for information security and client confidentiality, and implemented strategic improvements of client communication, counterparty reporting, and other business and operation processes. She also worked as an information technology consultant at Ernst and Young, where she advised clients on issues related to the architecture, design, management, and control of information security infrastructures.
